The Movies without Borders foreign film series shows movies in other languages with English subtitles. Here is an opportunity to engage in conversation with people from other countries and share experiences while enjoying examples of international cinema.
The Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) and AJAX Library Services are pleased to be partnering on this new multicultural initiative.
The next showing in the town of Ajax will be on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m. and features a film from India. Deepa Mehta has masterfully portrayed the period where widows in India are forbidden from worldly desires and bound by social restrictions, in order to gain passage to heaven. The well-balanced screenplay and strongly defined characters makes you live every scene, every moment in the film.
It will be projected in Hindi, with English subtitles. The movie is nominated for Oscar.
Free light snacks (from Indian cuisine), tea and coffee will be provided.
After the showing we will have raffle with questions about Indian culture and prizes.
