The Diaspora Collective - A group of students from J.Clarke Richardson High School
The Nappy Routes: A Hair Peace
Students of the Diaspora Collective attending J. Clarke Richardson High School put on a production of The Nappy Routes: A Hair Peace in celebration of African Heritage Month. This group of student from all grades at the school put on a presentation of scenes, dances and singing that was inspired by group discussions about identity, and research about Africville-one of Canada’s historic black communities, which was bulldozed in the 1970’s.
With the leadership of Miss Rock, a teacher at J. Clarke Richardson, the collective put on a show that was enjoyed by all the students in the school theatre. As expressed by student Amanda Hamilton, “I think it’s really good. The energy they have on stage is amazing.”
